Shade Tree Meeting Minutes 04/07/10
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Morris Plains Shade Tree Commission held on April 7, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. in the Borough Chamber. Present at roll call were:

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Mr. Williams called the meeting to order. He stated that adequate notice of this meeting has been posted and published in accordance with Chapter 231 of the Public Law of 1975, "Open Public Meetings Act."
Mr. Salero moved that the minutes of the March 3, 2010 meeting be accepted as presented, seconded by Mr. Visscher. Voice vote. All in favor. Motion carried.
COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC
Mr. Williams noted that the current amount of the budget is $36,885.
The Commission Secretary advised there are no outstanding invoices at this time.
Mr. Dubee presented his report.
10 Valley Stream Circle – Forester stated that this is not a Borough tree.
Mr. Salerno notified the resident.
21 Malapardis Road – Forester stated that (1) 10 ½" dead branch was dangling over the roadway and sidewalk. It was measured in to about 10.5’ in. The residents were away on vacation, and it was a dangerous situation. This has been taken care of.
87 Sylvan Drive - It pertains to a very large Oak tree that is across the street. This tree is leaning toward her house, and she is concerned about it. Limbs were removed from this tree last year. Forester stated that (1) 36+" w/stump should be removed.
5 Greenwood Road – Forester stated that (1) 24-36" needs to be pruned.
6 Greenwood Road – Forester stated that (1) 24-36" needs to be pruned.
10 Greenwood Road – Forester stated that (2) 24-36" needs to be pruned.
30 Janeway Place – Forester stated (1) 24"-36" ash tree needs to be pruned.
3 Thompson Way – Forester stated that this tree looks dead and should be replaced. Mr. Williams stated that he will notify Cerbo.
8 Trowbridge Road – Forester stated (1) 12"-24" tree w/stump should be removed.
Mrs. Law moved that the necessary work be approved, seconded by Mr. Visscher. Voice vote. All in favor. Motion carried.
The Commission Secretary advised that she has not yet received any information from the County regarding Arbor Day. The proclamation is done and signed by the Mayor. The seedlings were ordered. She also has called the school. When she receives the order form for the tree, she will find out if the Freeholders plan to attend. The Mayor and Council have been invited. She will contact the newspaper. She provided information on what needs to be done on Arbor Day.
Mrs. Law asked where this year’s Arbor Day tree will be planted.
The Commission Secretary advised that she believes last year’s tree was planted in Roberts Garden. The Commission must decide where to plant this year’s tree.
Totten Way was a location discussed as a possible planting site.
The Commission Secretary advised she spoke with Carol Terhune at Mountain Way School about the date. As of this conversation, no date had been decided on. She advised Ms. Terhune the actual date for Arbor Day is April 30. Further, she advised Ms. Terhune that Mr. Larry Travaglia would be contacting her as the Chairman of the Arbor Day activities.
There being no further business, Mr. Travaglia moved the meeting be adjourned, seconded by Mr. Visscher. Voice vote. All in favor. Motion carried.
