We are thrilled to announce Portia Levasseur as the 2024 Morris Plains Volunteer of the Year. Portia has been a dedicated and passionate leader within our community for many years. When she moved to Morris Plains more than a decade ago, she didn’t know the area or anyone in it. Determined to build connections, she immediately became active in the community. Beginning as Vice President of Membership for the MOMS Club of Morris Plains, she has since played an integral role in strengthening the fabric of the town she now proudly calls home. Portia has always been passionate about youth sports and eagerly stepped up to volunteer when her girls, now in 5th and 7th grade, were old enough to participate. Through her leadership in the Morris Plains Soccer Association (MPSA) as coach, board member, and the first female president among the town’s “Big Three” sports organizations, Portia has inspired countless players and volunteers. Portia continues to guide and mentor new board members, fostering the ongoing success of MPSA. Beyond the field, Portia is a founding board member of Downtown Morris Plains, where she tirelessly works to support our local businesses and ensure a thriving downtown. She also lends her talents as a board member of the Education Foundation of Morris Plains, helping to raise vital funds to support our schools.
More than her impressive résumé, it is Portia’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to making Morris Plains a better place that truly sets her apart. Her enthusiasm touches every corner of our town, education, sports, and community life. We are deeply grateful for all she does and are honored to recognize her as our 2024 Volunteer of the Year.
