Shade Tree Commission
Purpose
The Shade Tree Commission was established to ensure the appropriate management of the Morris Plains community forest. It has responsibility for the regulation, planting and care of shade and ornamental trees and shrubbery located in the Borough of Morris Plains on public property.
The Commission assists the Board of Adjustment and Planning Board in an advisory capacity when applications involve the preservation and inventory of trees within the borough.
Critical objectives for the Shade Tree Commission are:
- Implementation of the Morris Plains Community Forestry Management Plan (CFMP), including tree planting, tree maintenance, tree care disaster planning, tree hazard management, and public education, awareness and outreach.
- Attaining “approval status” for the town with NJ Shade Tree and Community Forestry Assistance Act
The Shade Tree Commission works closely with the Morris Plains Department of Public Works and an arborist to accomplish these objectives.
