Green Team

Promoting Energy Savings and Sustainability

Approach

The Morris Plains Green Team acts as an advisory board to promote and support environmentally sustainable practices through research and outreach, in collaboration with Borough officials, committees, and residents.

Mission Statement

Help ensure an environmentally sustainable and thriving future for the Morris Plains community.

Scope

The initial primary scope of the Green Team focuses on supporting Morris Plains to implement the Community Energy Plan (CEP), submitted to the NJ Board of Public Utilities in March of 2024.

Morris Plains Community Energy Plan

The Green Team may also work on opportunities that promote sustainability initiatives that go beyond limiting greenhouse gas emissions, such as:

  • Organizing an annual Earth Week event
  • Researching the recommendations in the Master Plan Reexamination Report of 2018 that relate to sustainability, such as an Environmental Sustainability Element of the Master Plan.
  • Education and outreach with recommendations to help our community members reduce their energy usage and save money
  • Future initiatives that provide pathways to continue to successfully achieve the mission.

Membership

The Green Team consists of a core team of 5-8 interested and committed members of the Morris Plains community is led by a Chair or Co-Chairs, or Chair and Vice-Chair (as deemed appropriate by the Team and Council Liaison).  More roles may be delineated over time.  One Council Liaison is appointed by the Mayor and acts as the lead interface between the Green Team and members of Borough leadership.  Additional participants beyond the core team may be sought on a temporary basis for certain activities that may require additional support or expertise, such as an annual Earth Week event(s) or complex technical projects.

Meetings

Green Team meetings may be carried out in person or via video conference and take place on a frequency deemed necessary by the Team. Progress and recommendations will be made by the Borough Council liaison at public Borough Council meetings.
